The Water Lily is a bright and refreshing cocktail with equal parts empress gin, triple sec, crème de violette, and lemon juice. Full of floral and citrus notes, this drink is perfect for spring and summertime.
Prepare the garnish by peeling a large piece of orange peel.
Clean up the sides with a paring knife and set aside.
Cocktail
Combine the lemon juice, gin, triple sec and crème de violette in a cocktail shaker.
Fill the shaker with ice and shake well, about 15-20 times.
Strain the drink into the serving glass.
Express the orange oils from the peel over top of the drink by squeezing the peel or twisting it. Then, rest it on the rim of the glass and serve.
Notes
Flavor Notes: Sweet and floral violet flavor is at the forefront, complemented by the herbal notes of the gin. The tart lemon cuts the sweetness and balances out the crème de violette and triple sec. Don’t skip the orange peel, as the orange oils give a wonderful citrusy but warm aroma when you take a sip.
