Beer & tequila -- it's the best of both worlds in this tasty Beer Margarita cocktail! This is a crisp and refreshing margarita with such a great flavor. I admit it sounded like a strange combo to me at first, but after some experimenting this drink turned out to be so delicious. It's a great pick for game day or a hot summer afternoon!

I definitely recommend this drink for anytime you want something crisp, cold and super drinkable. Although the beer you use plays a major part in the flavor, the citrus and tequila still show up and are so tasty!

Looking for some more game day drinks? Try out this easy frozen Whiskey Sour (my favorite!) or the cinnamon-y Fireball Apple Cider.

Try out these other margaritas for some more variety (all great for Cinco de Mayo)! The colorful Galaxy Margarita is always a hit, or the Blackberry Margarita is another delicious summery pick. Try this tasty Lychee flavored margarita for something a little different!

Beer Margarita tequila cocktail on a countertop, garnished with two lime slices and a salted rim. There are limes, a dish of salt and a gold jigger in the background, along with a can of beer.

    Ingredients

You'll need just five ingredients to make this drink, plus some salt for the rim of the glass!

Grab yourself some tequila (I used Lalo tequila) and triple sec orange liqueur. You'll also need lime juice and agave nectar.

Lastly, the beer! A lager style beer works perfectly in this drink. I used Shiner lemonade shandy, which has a lot of citrus and some sweetness too. A Corona beer would also work great.

    Substitutions

Here are some ways you can substitute the ingredients in this cocktail:

    • Tequila - either blanco or reposado tequila work well in this drink.
    • Triple sec - you can omit the triple sec if you don't have it, use another orange liqueur like Cointreau, or substitute it with both a little extra tequila and a little extra agave nectar.
    • Agave - if you don't have the agave syrup, you can use regular simple syrup, or a little honey.
    • Beer - you can experiment with different beer styles to get your preferred flavor. For more sweetness, try a wheat beer. For a more bitter/hoppy flavor, go for an IPA.

    Equipment

A standard cocktail shaker, strainer and jigger are great to have for this recipe, since the margarita part of the drink is shaken. You'll also need a large serving glass (a tumbler works perfectly).

A small dish for the salt will also come in handy! Plus, grab a knife and cutting board if you're using fresh citrus.

    Instructions

To add the salt rim to your serving glass, wet the rim of your glass using a cut lime (or some water). Then, dip the rim into your dish of salt.

Pour in the beer, and give everything a gentle stir just to mix it all together. Add a lime slice as an optional garnish before serving.

Hint: Try to chill all of your ingredients before making the cocktail so the ice won't melt too quickly!
